Signature Camp Description:
We meet at the barn at , when it’s still cool outside. We gather the horses, tack up, and ride. The lessons all have different themes that we adjust to different level riders. is Meet and Greet day - we make friends with the horses and make sure everyone is paired up with a suitable four legged friend. theme is Fun with Poles. For more advanced riders, this means jumping, while for beginners, we use obstacle courses and series of ground poles. Wednesdays we kick up dirt on Gymkhana Day – advanced riders whip around barrels, while beginners get an intro to Western games and relay races. Thursday is Beach Day - we trailer two horses to Fiesta Island to play in the water. And of course , campers get to show off their skills to family and friends in a show. Did I mention the Horsemanship Academy ribbons are huge?!
We alternate mounted and non-mounted activities, with all campers doing both an extended riding lesson and horsemanship activities each day. The later include washing the horses (splashing allowed), cleaning tack, hosting a scavenger hunt for different breeds, colors and marks, and practicing showmanship and free jumping. We also, of course, make time for a picnic in the shade under the pepper trees.
Riders must have instructor approval to ride in the Advanced Groups! Minimum skill level is similar to our intermediate badge, i.e. you must know your diagonals and leads, consistently demonstrate prompt transitions between all three gaits on different horses, be able to jump a basic course, tack up, lunge, handle horses independently, as well as have a steady and secure seat.
Itinerary for Advanced Groups include:
-A simi jumper show: grooming, dressing up, walking the course, warming up, then riding the course timed (ribbons provided)
If there is enough interest and room/horses left (3 minimum), we can create an advanced-only group any week. These camps are for you, so let us know your preference!
